I Have Always Loved the Sunshine of Yellow

Seven Questions with SuthinGirl: Patricia McLean, Honorary Design Chair of the 2017 Cathedral Antiques Show

Best place to shop on a budget? Markets in London and Paris

Favorite place to shop if money were no limit?  Markets and antique fairs in London and Paris

Mistake people commonly make in your area of design? Leaving off the window treatments. They are the fine point of decorating to me and the greatest responsibility I have as a professional interior designer.

Favorite colors at the moment? I have always loved the sunshine of yellow. Blue and green together are hard to beat. And you must have some terra cotta with a bit of brown and gold thrown in the mix. I guess I would say I love the colors of nature.

Favorite room in a house? Favorite rooms to decorate are bedrooms. There is a serenity you must capture no matter the palette. For living and establishing the heart of the home, the family room.

Least favorite current design trend? Cheap everything. Or Do It Yourself when they have a carpenter in the driveway making everything custom. I like quality and authenticity.

Best piece of advice I can give based upon my area of expertise… I always encourage an education in interior design. My University of Georgia professors told us the first week of classes we could open our own business after graduating from our program. I took them at their word. Interior Design is a wonderful business and world in which to prosper. My degree has guided me every step of the way.

That’s Seven. Now onto the Bonus Round!

Go-to hostess gift? Orchid or monogramed something or a book that features my work.

Favorite cocktail?  Sand wedge

Most sentimental treasure you’ve collected across the years? One is a tortoise shell box I bought at an important fair in London from the top dealer at that time, Tony Stone. It reminds me of a wonderful trip and how my love of antiques and shows has grown over the years.

If had to reinvent myself, I’d be a… Singer or actress! Ha ha!

Skincare and the Silver Tea Service

January 11, 2017

Skincare secrets are passed down between the generations of women in my family right alongside the antique silver tea service and my great-grandmother’s wedding rings. Does that show you how highly we prize gorgeous skin? I feel particularly qualified to help a sister out on the subject, having tried eveerrrrrryyything from Pond’s Cold Cream to Crème de la Mer. Last spring, […]
